Newport Transit Station will be a State Fair Park and Ride!

Metro Transit will use the Newport Transit Station as a park-and-ride site for the 2016 Minnesota State Fair.

The transit station is on the southwest corner of Interstate 494 and Highway 61 at 250 Red Rock Crossing in Newport. The Cottage Grove park-and-ride will also be used as a state fair transit site.

Metro Transit operates expanded park-and-ride services throughout the Twin Cities to provide frequent transit service to and from the fair. Metro Transit has identified the Newport Transit Station as an ideal location for this service. Metro Transit will do parking lot striping of up to an additional 350 parking spaces in the grassy areas near the station, bringing the parking capacity to 500 spaces for the State Fair. There is no cost to Washington County for the use of the parking lot.

Express buses to the fair operate from almost two dozen Twin Cities locations.

Buses operate 8 a.m. to midnight; departure times are approximate. Express buses serve the State Fair Transit Hub, which is on the west side of the fairgrounds near the West End Market. All express service is wheelchair accessible.

The bus ride is $5 round-trip, with cash or Bus Bargain Tickets only. Children age 4 and younger ride free. For more information, see www.metrotransit.org.
